چکیده
Pandemic 2009 infl uenza A virus (H1N1) is a new infl uenza virus causing illness in human populations. Immunocompromised patients are at high risk for the acquisition of infl uenza and serious infl uenza-associated complications. However, there are no reports about patients with both newly diagnosed acute leukemia and H1N1 infl uenza infection. We reported 2 cases of previously healthy patients with H1N1 infl uenza infection as the initial presentation of acute leukemia.

Aim: To access the proportion of Infl uenza which caused SARI cases Methods: From April 2008 until March 2009, 549 samples of nasal and throat swabs were collected from SARI patients from eight hospitals in eight provinces in Indonesia. The samples were analyzed for Infl uenza by real-time RT-PCR method using several specifi c primers for infl uenza A (A/H1N1, A/H3N2 and A/H5N1) and Infl uenza ...

To the Editor: While pandemic (H1N1) 2009 was in its earliest stages, age distribution data indicated surprisingly few cases among persons >65 years of age. The initial assumption was that few persons >65 years of age had yet to be exposed. However, as more data became available from Mexico, Australia, and the United States, the age distribution pattern persisted (1). This observation raised th...

Dear Editor, The contributory role of bacterial infection to severe infl uenza illness during a pandemic is not entirely clear. The post-mortem samples of those who died between 1918 and 1919, the pre-antibiotic era, exhibited severe changes indicative of bacterial pneumonia; these are less well substantiated in the subsequent 2 pandemics in the 1950s and 1960s. Although primary viral pneumonia...
متن کاملPossible origin of current influenza A H1N1 viruses.
The ongoing outbreak of swine-origin infl uenza A H1N1 in Mexico, the USA, and 40 other countries reminds us that the risk of an infl uenza pandemic is high and will persist in the future. The fi rst two cases of H1N1 infection in Southern California, USA, were reported on April 21, 2009. According to WHO’s estimation, seasonal infl uenza epidemics result in about 3 million to 5 million cases o...
